    Important information

    • Games, DLCs and updates are installed in the same way and in any order
    • Do not go online with a running pirated game - it can lead to a ban
      • You will not be able to go online on Atmosphere. It is specifically blocked. To access the online functions of the console, use Full Stock
      • You can use a special method for network play

In what order to install games and a little about conventional designations

As a rule, in addition to the game, you need to install the latest patch and DLC, if the latter were released. Regarding the patch, you only need to install the latest one, you do not need to install all those that were before it. The latest patch can always be found in Switch Torrent library

    Game naming standards

    • NSP - eShop game dumps.
    • NSZ - eShop game dumps, but packed in a special way (archived)
    • XCI - bit-by-bit cartridge dumps. Similarly, disk images were made for PCs in the past. To use with Atmosphere, install using DBI (see below)

    Now games are named according to this unwritten rule - game_name [ game_titleid ][ game_version ]. extension

For example FINAL FANTASY X X-2 HD Remaster [0100BC300CB48000][v0].nsp

FINAL FANTASY X X-2 HD Remaster - game name 0100BC300CB48000 - Title ID (needed for using modifications through LayeredFS * A patch that allows you to change the game data in RAM to the data on the memory card. Translations and mods work with this patch. ) v0 - game version. v0 always means the game itself. vXXXXXX always a patch. The higher the version number, the newer the patch.

There are also constructions like Touhou Kobuto V Burst Battle [010010F004022000] + (v196608 UPD) + (2 DLC).xci . You can install such games using DBI (see below)

Where to get games and updates

    • Latest version of kefir * A collection consisting of a selected custom, necessary programs and scripts that will install all this correctly. You can view the composition of kefir and installation instructions in its repository
    • Games

Choose one of the installation methods

    1. Launch Homebrew Launcher
Method I - USB installation (recommended)

    Game Installation

    Preliminary work in MacOS
    1. Install Android File Transfer , if your MacOS version is 10.13 or newer

There is a peculiarity that the Mac recognizes the Nintendo Switch as a device that should charge the Mac, not the other way around. Because of this, the MTP server does not start, and you can't do anything. How to get around it? You need to connect the cable to the "sleeping" console. Then the connection will be correct (the Mac will charge the Switch, not the other way around) and you can follow the standard installation procedure. Thanks to Misha Naumchuk

    1. Connect the console to the PC with a USB cable (type-c)
    2. On the console launch DBI through Homebrew Launcher
    3. Press “ Run MTP Responder
      • A new MTP device will be mounted to your PC
    4. Open the “ Switch ” device that appeared on your computer (in “this computer” on Windows)
    5. Copy the games you want to install to the “ MicroSD install ” or “ NAND install ” folder, depending on where you want to install the game
      • Remember that NSZ format games take up more space after installation than the NSZ file itself weighs
        • During the installation of the NSZ file, the console screen will display the size that the game will take up after installation
    6. At the end of the installation, press (X) to stop the MTP server and unmount the MTP device
    7. Press (+) to close DBI
Method II - Installation from USB media

You can drop games in .nsp , .nsz , .xci format, connect the media to the console via an OTG cable, or to the dock station and install games directly from the media! The media must be formatted to the exFAT file system.

    1. Connect the USB media with games to the console
      • You can connect directly to the console using an OTG cable, or insert the media into the dock when the console is in it
    2. Launch “ DBI ” through Homebrew Launcher
    3. Select “ Browse USB0 Drive
    4. Go to the folder where the games are in .nsp , .nsz or .xci format
      • The guide recommends using the games folder for order. However, the folder can be any

    7. Select the necessary options in “ Install options
      • Install target - installation location. NAND or SDcard correspond to internal memory and memory card
      • Delete after install - the value Yes will allow the program to automatically delete files after they have been installed
    8. Select Start install to start the installation
    9. Press (B) to exit the installer to the folder
    10. Press (+) to close the program
Method III - Installation from a memory card

This method is not recommended, as frequently removing and inserting the card into the console can be dangerous for your slot and may damage it! You can move files to the memory card using the built-in DBI MTP server.

    1. Copy the games you want to install to the games folder on your memory card For a memory card in FAT32 format, which is the format recommended in this guide, to copy a game larger than 4GB, it will have to be cut in a special way using the NSPsplitty program.
    2. Launch “ DBI ” through Homebrew Launcher
    3. Select “ Browse SD Card
    4. Go to the folder where the games are in .nsp , .nsz or .xci format
      • The guide recommends using the games folder for order. However, the folder can be any
    5. Select the games you want to install with the (X) button
      • Press (Y) if you need to select all or invert the selection
    6. Press (A) to start the installation

      • After the installation is complete, you can close the program with the (HOME) button

With Tinfoil, games can be installed directly from a remote server on the internet, which is constantly replenished by the community.

    Use of translations and modifications

For correct operation of translations, an active module is needed LayeredFS * A patch that allows changing the game data in the RAM to the data located on the memory card. This patch enables translations and mods to work. . As a rule, the module is activated by default. In Atmosphere, files for LFS should be placed in the folder atmosphere/contents/ .

You can also use DBI for installing modifications:

    1. Connect the console in MTP mode via DBI
    2. Go to Installed Games , to the folder with the name of your game
    3. Go to the folder Mods & Cheats

Inside this archive, you see a folder with the game's TitleID - 01000B900D8B0000 . You need to unpack the archive, go to the folder 01000B900D8B0000 and copy all the contents of the folder to Mods & Cheats ! Not the folder 01000B900D8B0000 , but everything that is in it! In this example, the folder romfs

      • To get to hekate, if you are not in it, restart the console, for this hold the power button for 5 seconds, being in the custom firmware, then select Power Options -> Restart . When the kefir splash screen appears, press (VOL-) (volume down button)
    2. After the attribute fix is complete, press Close in the upper right corner
    3. Select Home -> Launch - > YOUR_OS_NAME , to boot back into the firmware
